Winford Benjamin ‘Bennie’ Walker GREENVILLE — Winford Benjamin “Bennie” Walker, 72, of Greenville, died peacefully with his family and friends by his side on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after an eight-week battle with a brain tumor. Born on Jan 17, 1938, he was the youngest of eight children born to Earl and Connie Walker of the Lone Star Community. Bennie, known to many later in life as “Pa Pa,” was a farmer and worked for Green River Gas Co. He served on many boards throughout his life including Muhlenberg County Water Shed, Southern States, Farm Bureau and Production Credit Association Board. He was a devoted member of Lone Star Church where he served as treasurer and deacon for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Walker, and two sisters, Marjorie Wells and Floella “Flo” Dukes on Feb. 4, 2010. Bennie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise Taylor Walker of Greenville; two daughters, Carolyn (Jimmy) Rolley and Connie (Dwayne) Lax, both of Greenville. He was a loving and caring “Pa Pa” to four grandchildren and a great-grandson, Holly (Stuart) Doss of Greenville, Lee (Sally) Jordan of Henderson, Craig Lax of Murray, Jennie Taylor Rolley of Greenville and Colin Doss of Greenville; three sisters, Aliene Grace and Merelene Bandy of Greenville, Wanda Bandy of Beaver Dam; and one brother, Gerald Walker of Greenville. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lone Star Church, Kentucky 853, Greenville, with the Rev. Tony Shanks and the Rev. Joe Carter officiating. Burial in Lone Star Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at Lone Star Church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.
