CENTRAL CITY – Wendell Gilmon Flener, Sr., 76, of Central City, died Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 5:57PM at Ridgewood Terrace in Madisonville. Mr. Flener was born March 29, 1948 in Muhlenberg County. He worked as a Pumper for Peabody Coal and retired from the Boilermakers Local 374. He was a member of Crossing Holiness Church. He enjoyed working and mowing his yard which allowed him time to be quiet and think. He loved music and played the guitar at church. His faith was very important to him. He spent many family vacations boating and teaching the kids how to water ski. His greatest joys were spending time with his wife of 57 years and being “granddad” playing with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilmon and Edith Flener; and brother, Norman Flener.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Stevens Flener; children, Wendell (Jackie) Flener of Central City, Troy (Tawnya) Flener of Central City, Melinda (Brian) Nightingale of Bremen, Chris Flener of Greenville, Jonathan (Emily) Flener of Central City; grandchildren, Rebekah (Kirk) Luckett, Maggie Flener, Josh (Kaylan) Flener, Nathan (Kendra) Flener, Zack Flener, Rachel (Cameron) Marvin, Jacob Nightingale, Jared Nightingale, Kaleigh (Robbie) James, Landon (Lexi) Flener, Jonah Flener, and Hudson Flener; great-grandchildren, Abel Flener, Brielle James, Carter Marvin, Gracelynn James, Camden Marvin, Jordan James, Kennedy Marvin, Rylan Flener, and Ellie Nightingale; brothers, Steve (Kaye) Flener, and Denzil (Sandy) Flener; sisters, Doris Johnson, Linda Whitehouse, Barbara (Bill) Penrod, and Sue (Harold) Hardison; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 27, 2025 at 11AM at Crossing Holiness Church in Central City with Bro. Jonathan Flener officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 5-8PM and again on Monday, January 27, 2025 after 8 AM at the church. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
