BREMEN – Wallace “William” Roe, known to many as Uncle William, passed away peacefully at his residence in Bremen on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 6:35AM, at the age of 93. William was born on July 8, 1933, at the home of his grandparents, Jasper and Cleo Markwell, in Bremen. William married Gracie Jones (Sis) in 1952 after meeting her in Sunday school class at Fairview Church.
William worked for 24 years at Livermore Chair Factory, 10 years at Caney Creek Mines, and another 10 years as a custodian at Bremen School. He enjoyed each of these jobs and made many friends.
William was a very hard worker and loved to be outside. He always kept his 1994 Chevy spotless and proudly displayed a license plate honoring his beloved granddaughter, Raylee. William enjoyed working on old cars and tractors, gardening, mowing, and having breakfast with his friends at McDonald’s. He loved Bremen, especially his neighborhood of Brown Town, where he had lived since 1958. He could often be found at his niece Jamie’s Farm Market, looking for old friends to talk with and seeing if her garden was doing better than his.
William had been a member of Shaver’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Bremen since 1985. He loved the Lord, his church, and its members. He was proud of all the years he received pins for perfect attendance in Sunday school.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford and Ruby Markwell Roe; his wife of 67 years, Gracie Roe; his brother, James Roe; and his sisters, Agnes Mangrum and Carolyn Holman.
William is survived by his daughter, Amy (Wesley) Garrett of Bremen; his granddaughter, Raylee Romans (Chase Rickard); his nephews, Tim (Joyce) White and Mason Whitmer; his nieces, Angie (Joanne) Martin, Stacy (Jamie) Stobaugh, Jamie Markwell (Bradley Miller), Crystal (Ricky) Whitney, Kathy Miller, Lisa Miller, and Hannah Smith (Jo Miller); his adopted niece, Melody (Kenny) Markwell, who he always called his Lucy; his brother-in-law, William Holman; his sister-in-law, Janice Roe; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends.
