GREENVILLE- W.J. “Bill” Whittinghill II, , of Greenville died February 9, 2018 after a long illness at his residence. Mr. Whittinghill was born in Midland, KY on Thursday, November 12, 1936 to W.J. “Willie” Whittinghill and Annie Mae Woodall Whittinghill. He grew up on a farm with his six siblings, four brothers, Harold, W.G., James “Sag”, Donald, and sisters, Edna (Harold) Koon and Barbara (Willard) Stafford. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce (Hughes) Whittinghill; his parents; brothers, Harold, James “Sag” and Thomas; sisters, Edna Koon and Mary Helen. Also, a grandchild, Jackson Pierce Vincent and step grandson, Nathan Eisert. After high school, Mr. Whittinghill joined the military serving in the United States NATO Command in Europe for three years. Upon discharge from the armed forces, he worked for Harry Balke consulting engineers as a concrete, grade, and compaction inspector during the construction of the Western Kentucky Parkway. He also worked for the TVA Power Construction Division building line towers from Paradise to Hopkinsville. He worked for Sinclair Surface Mine where he retired after working 25 years. He then worked at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital Coal Miners’ Clinic as The Black Lung Benefits Counselor for 23 years and retired at age 77. He was a member of The UMWA Local Union 1342 where he served as President and Chairman of the mine committee. He served on the Kentucky Cancer Program Board of Directors for 12 years. He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He attended Bremen High School, Madisonville Community College and Western Kentucky University. He was also a member of the Greenville Church of Christ. Survivors include his children, Janet (Bobby) Vincent of Greenville, W.J. (Joey) Whittinghill III of Calhoun, GA, Pam (Glenn) Eisert of Bowling Green, KY; a very special friend, Julia Rose; grandchildren, JoAnna (Dustin) Kelley, Lauren (Daniel) Watson, Jordan (Cecily) Vincent, Jacob S. Lile, Morgan Whittinghill, Brad Whittinghill; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Kolter Kelley; step-granddaughter, Shanna (Dallas) Steiden and Bridger and Freeland Steiden. He will be missed by many family and friends. Funeral services with military honors will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating and Rev. John Michael Galyen assisting. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
