Vernon “Pete” Edwin Luckett, 78, of Montgomery, Ala., formerly of Beechmont, died Saturday, May 15, 2010. Pete was a Korean War veteran. He worked for Chrysler Corp., in Evansville, Fenton, Mo., and Belvidere, lll. After 32 years with Chrysler, he retired to Montgomery, Ala., to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. His active retirement years included rental properties and a lawn service with his grandson, Mitch. Mr. Luckett was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Luckett; sisters, Ruby Allen and Margie McPherson; parents, Monroe Luckett and Gladys Roberson Luckett. Survivors include his daughters, Sandy (Jerry) Mitchell of Pike Road, Ala., and Tonya (Carl) Barlow of Millington, Tenn; grandchildren, Jerry “Mitch” Mitchell Jr., of Sylvester, Ga., Kourtni (William) Lyerly of Montgomery, Kayla Mitchell of Auburn, Ala., and Bill Barlow Jr. of Yulee, Fla.; sisters Sue (Glen) Long of Pacific, Mo., Mary Eddings of Greenville; brothers, Jack Luckett of Forfyth, Mo., Gene Luckett of Beechmont; and other extended family. Pete loved life and was always willing to give a helping hand. He will live on in the hearts of his daughters, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, extended family and countless friends. Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Beechmont Funeral Home, with Mark Cowert officiating. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial in Hazel Creek Cemetery.
