Suzanne Barnett Boyd Suzanne Barnett Boyd, 70, of Owensboro met her Lord Jesus face to face on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at her home. Suzanne was born Aug. 13, 1939, in Greenville to the late Roy Thomas and Ruth Barnett. She grew up in Central City, graduating from Central City High School in 1958. Suzanne attended Bethel Baptist Junior College in Hopkinsville, where she met her future husband, Carl, and graduated from Campbellsville College in Kentucky in 1963. She was a public school teacher in Kentucky and California, but spent most of her adult life as a pastor’s wife. She retired in 2004 after serving eight years as child care director of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pikeville. From 2005 until her death, she served with her husband, Pastor Carl Boyd, at First Baptist Church in Rockport, Ind. This wonderful Christian lady has been a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, discipler, home Bible study leader and much more in churches in Kentucky, California and Indiana. She has served in women’s ministries at the local, association and state levels. She had been a conference leader and speaker for several years. She was a member of the WMU Star Team of the Kentucky Baptist Convention to Kenya and a member of a volunteer mission group to Brazil. Also, she helped start a new church in Ohio and Kentucky. Her greatest passion in life was introducing others to Jesus Christ. Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents; and a stepfather, John C. Ogden. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Carl; two sons, Mark (Patti) of McKinleyville, Calif., and Carl Wayne (Sharon) of Owensboro; a daughter, Janet Boyd of Central City; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Army), Tomara, Matthew, Shalana, Carl, Alex, Cameron and Christian; a brother, Roy Thomas Barnett of Huntsville, Ala.; and a niece, Maya McDonald of Huntsville. Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Dr. Bill Mackey officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
