This is such a great loss to the miner community. I help miners with black lung benefits and he was always at the meetings doing all he could for the miners he served. May God Bless his family.

Steve was a tireless worker for and champion of coal miners - not just UMWA miners, but non-union miners as well. Indeed, every Kentucky coal miner owes him a debt of gratitude. Steve's work improved the lives of miners throughout our Commonwealth. I have particularly fond memories of lobbying the Kentucky General Assembly for a few weeks in 2006 with Steve for the passage of a landmark mine safety bill, which ultimately passed unanimously despite the efforts of the coal industry to kill it. For years, when I would drive into Muhlenberg County - on my way to Madisonville to work on mine safety cases - I would call Steve and sing the first few lines of John Prine's "Paradise" to him: "Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County...". We had a lot of laughs over the years about our opponents in the coal industry and the KY state government...! RIP, dear friend. And prayers for Bonita & the entire family.

Sending my deepest condolences to Bonita and the family on this untimely loss of a husband, father, and grandfather. In the many years I was in the UMWA Legal Department, Steve and I often worked together on collective bargaining, contract enforcement, and strikes. I was inspired by the vision, commitment and energy Steve brought to defending and promoting Mineworkers' safety, health, and security. After I retired, Steve and I stayed in touch by phone, and I always looked forward to our calls. I feel such sadness at his loss, and will miss him greatly.

I had the privilege of sitting with Steve Earl on the International Executive Board, and I can honestly say he was one of the real ones. Steve cared deeply about workers, their families, and the communities they came from. He spoke with passion, stood his ground when it mattered, and never forgot who he was representing. Beyond the meetings and union business, Steve was simply a good man to be around. The kind of person you respected not just for his leadership, but for who he was as a person. I’m grateful for the time I got to spend working alongside him and for the conversations and memories we shared over the years. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who knew him. Steve leaves behind a legacy that won’t be forgotten. Rest easy, brother.

So sorry for the passing of Steve even though I only knew him for a short time, but I enjoyed every minute that we worked together. A man with the biggest heart will surely be missed. Praying for Bonita and the rest of the family. As it says in 2Timothy 4:6-7 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight , I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things , I will make the thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Rest in Peace my good friend you will sorely be missed.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Steve. He was a tireless fighter for Working Families. I met Steve 25 years ago being out of the UAW we connected and anytime the Mine Workers had a fight he made sure we were involved. Not only did we help them but it educated our members on the Struggles of other Unions. The Labor Movement lost a Champion! Prayers for his family that shared him with the Movement 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
