GREENVILLE – God opened his arms and called his faithful servant Shirley home on Sunday afternoon, September 16, 2012. Following a lengthy illness, Shirley Dukes Taylor, 76, passed away surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born in the community of Beech Creek, KY on October 27, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Marjorie Dukes. Shirley graduated from Greenville High School and later married C.J. Taylor in 1956 where they lived in Greenville. After raising her children, Shirley worked as a teacher’s aide at Greenville Elementary School. She later was employed by First State Bank of Greenville where after several years she retired as a bank teller. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville. Shirley enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with her family and friends. Preceding her in death was her loving husband of 47 years, C.J. Taylor. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Faye Cooley of Madisonville; her son, Terry Bruce (Jill) Taylor of Madisonville; Two brothers, Bob (Johnnie) Dukes of Greenville and Ken Dukes of Charleston, South Carolina; one sister, Charlotte (Gene) Chapman of Johnson City, Tennessee; Two grandchildren, Joshua Cooley of Madisonville and Sean Cooley of Evansville, Indiana; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held for family and friends at 11:00 am on Wednesday, the 19th of September, 2012 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville with Rev. Daniel Selman officiating.
