Shellie Russ, 89, of Nelson Creek, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville. She was born in Hopkins County on July 3, 1920, to the late Rev. W.B. and Viana Dockery who preceded her in death along with her sister, Lurie Burden and brothers Estie, Vesper and Genoa Dockery. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Russ, on Nov. 18, 2004. She has been a member of the Nelson Creek Baptist Church for 80 years. Survivors include five sons, Dillard (Beulah) Russ of Chandler, Ind., Lendell (Brenda) Russ of Central City, Walton (Joann) Russ of Midland, Gayle (Sandra) Russ of Evansville, and Gary (Cheryl) Russ of Nelson Creek; five daughters, Sue (Bill) Vincent of Beaver Dam, Penny (David) Noffsinger of Nelson Creek, Joyce (Curtis) Lear of Crofton, Sherry (Billy) Sharp of Central City and Janet (Keith) Casebier of Nelson Creek. She also is survived by 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Wilkins officiating, assisted by the Rev. Curtis Lear, with burial to follow in Nelson Creek Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City. Mrs. Russ will lie in state from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson Creek Baptist Church.
