Sammie Harris Moss was born on December 6, 1946, in Beechmont, Kentucky, to the late Golda McElwain Harris and Samuel “Woodrow” Harris. An only child, Sammie was deeply devoted to her parents throughout her life. She passed peacefully in her sleep on January 18, 2026, after a brief illness.
On June 12, 1964, Sammie married the love of her life, Stephen Moss. Together they shared 61 years of marriage, building a life rooted in devotion to family and one another.
They were blessed with three daughters: Tammie Marett (Mack) of Owensboro, Kentucky; Lori Houk (Melvin) of Eddyville; and Stephanie “Nikki” Moss of Owensboro. Sammie also held a special place in her heart for Karen Galyen (Mitchell) of Dunmor, Kentucky, a beloved honorary Moss girl, to whom Sammie was both a second mother and a big sister.
Sammie cherished her grandchildren, John Bryant Houk (Danay) of Norman, Oklahoma, and Kaylin Bess Davis (Taylor) of Marion, Kentucky. She delighted in her great-grandchildren: Braylee Mae, Emerson Jane, Leighton Bryant, Edie Bryar, and one soon to arrive. She also dearly loved Karen’s girls and their children, cousin Terry Beth Bowers, and her many remaining cousins and friends, especially her best friend and partner in crime, Tudie.
A devoted stay-at-home mother, Sammie supported her husband and children tirelessly. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends, and was a proud member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, where she formed lifelong friendships.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, followed by services at 12:30 p.m., conducted by Bro. John Galyen, at Tucker’s Funeral Home in Beechmont with a private burial at Union Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Union Ridge Cemetery Fund. Donations may be mailed to James Wester, 629 Horseshoe Loop, Belton, KY 42324.
