CENTRAL CITY – Sallie McLean Nieberg, 87, of Central City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at her home under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky, surrounded by her family. She was born in Clearwater, Florida on February 5, 1931, to the late Archie W. McLean and Irene Wagner McLean. Sallie graduated from Clearwater High School in 1949 and from Touro Infirmary School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1952. She remained on the staff at Touro as Clinical Instructor of Obstetrics until 1954. On March 5, 1955, she married the “Love of Her Life” Elmer R. “Buck” Nieberg, Jr. She worked in her profession as a Registered Nurse and retired in 1990, after working at Medical Center Hospital in Punta Gorda, Florida for 28 years. Sallie also participated in the “Nurses Health Study” conducted by Harvard Medical School from its inception in 1976 until the time of her death. She and her husband moved to Kentucky in 2009. She was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville. Her parents and husband of 59 years, Elmer R. “Buck” Nieberg, Jr., and grandson Jared R. Nieberg preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, D. Wayne Nieberg of Greenville and Gregg H. Nieberg of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three grandchildren, Alex Nieberg of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jonathan Nieberg of Orlando, Florida, and Darrein Nieberg of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two great-grandsons, Kaden D. Mathis and Jackson W. Peterson, both of Greenville; three sisters, Harriet Redman of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Mary Lou Hughes of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Shirley Deshong of McDonald, Pennsylvania; four nephews; five nieces; and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301 or First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, P.O. Box 156, Greenville, KY 42345. Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 11:00AM at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, officiated by Rev.
