CENTRAL CITY – Robert L. “Hacksaw” Hayes, 86, of Central City, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville. Mr. Hayes was born February 22, 1926 in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired coal miner with Gibraltar Coal Mines, and prior to that he was self-employed. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Bob enjoyed golf, wood working, and meeting every morning with his coffee drinking buddies at the Dairy Queen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Oscar Whitehouse. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Eula Mae Yewell Hayes; children Bobby G. Hayes of Louisville, Patricia (Ed) Grajewski of Midlithian, VA, and Pamela Smith of Paducah; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters Janice (Tip) Sweeney of Calvert City and Brenda (Ide) Cates of Hanson. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Dr. Kevin Brown officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday after 9:00AM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to First United Methodist Church or Muhlenberg County Humane Society.
