CENTRAL CITY – Robert William Brooks, 81, of Central City, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 10:00PM at Maple Manor Healthcare in Greenville. Mr. Brooks was born August 16, 1929 in Nashville, TN. He was a cost accountant with Ayr-Gem Mines and was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City, Mr. Brooks was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II and with the Military Police. He was on the City Council for twelve years, was a Little League coach for six years, and was past president of Central City Band Boosters. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gertie Brooks, and uncle, Herbert Brooks. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lee Toll Brooks; a son, Robert Jonathan (Lori) Brooks of Greenville; a daughter, Cindy Brooks (Robert) Ragland of Paducah; grandchildren Christina Brooks (Beau) Maurer, Laura (Todd) Goodwin, and Jon Christopher Brooks; great-grandchildren Brooks Goodwin, Baylor Maurer, and Caroline Brooks Maurer. Funeral services will be Friday, January 7, 2011 at 1:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Bob Lowery officiating, assisted by Rev. Jerrod Brown. Visitation will be Friday after 11:00AM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimers Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
