Dr. Phillip R. Young, age 83 of Beaver Dam passed away on December 17 at his home. His parents were the late Emmit Hicks and Hilda B. Young of Central City, KY. Phil was a 1951 graduate of Drakesboro High School and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He attended Western Kentucky University and was a 1964 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry in Kentucky for 50 years. After retiring from private practice, he served as a staff dentist at Ft. Knox, Ft. Benning and Ft. Campbell. He practiced several years at the Community Dental Center in Owensboro, KY. Phil attended Beaver Dam United Methodist Church for 30 years before returning to his home church, Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Central City. He was a member of Odds and Ends Sunday School Class and a trustee and elder of the church. He belonged to 673 F & AM Masonic Lodge in Central City for 60 years. Phil loved living in the country and watching birds and other animals around his home. He enjoyed hunting in his earlier years. Phil had several interests and loved to read as well as grow peaches and roses. Phil loved spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them how to play ball, fish, camp and split rails for fences around his property. Phil was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Joann Lane Young. He is survived by his children, a son, Timothy Phillip Young (Courtney) of Crestwood, KY and their children Alexander and Donovan, and a daughter, Dr. Julie Young Campbell (Troy) of Panama City Beach, FL and their children Madeline, Mitchell and Marshall. He is also survived by his brother Jerry Young (Mary) of Central City, KY and nieces and nephew, Jenny Bunch, Kelly Young and Kurt Lane. He is also survived by his brother in law Marcus James Lane (Dinah) of Ozark, MO and nephew Kurtis Lane (Shannon) and their children. Phil is also survived by his loving dog Lucy, who was a dedicated family companion over the years. The family would like to extend its’ thanks to Hospice of Ohio County for their wonderful care during Phil’s illness. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church with Brother Glen Armstrong officiating, and the Rev. Larry Isakson assisting. Visitation will be at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM. Burial will be in the Harry Young Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Young will lie in state at the church from 12:00 PM (noon) till 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
