CENTRAL CITY – Nell Jane Stewart, 97, of Central City, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 7:10PM in Powderly. Nell Jane was born December 7, 1926 in Greenville. She was an operator for South Central Bell, and a member of First Baptist Church in Central City. Nell Jane loved her cats and she was “full of it”; she enjoyed all kinds of hobbies including piano, song writing, and as her friends would say, “she was a hoot” to be around. She loved to dance, cook, and spend time in her garden. She was the oldest member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelby Gene Stewart; brother, Dr. Garland Ray Garst; and parents, Garland and Ruby Garst.

She is survived by her daughter, Ramona Stewart; son, Gene Ray (Jo Nell) Stewart; and nieces, nephews, and great-nieces/nephews.

Graveside services will be Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 11AM at Fairmount Cemetery in Central City with Bro. Bobby Reno officiating. Burial to follow. Visitation will be Saturday from 9-10:30AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Muhlenberg County Humane Society.
