CENTRAL CITY – Melvin Edward Hornsby, age 60, of Central City died Friday, March 3, 2023 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Melvin was born October 14, 1962, in Harlan, Kentucky and was an Equipment Operator for Scotty’s Contracting and Stone in Bowling Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jeanetta Hornsby; brothers, Timothy Hornsby and George Hornsby; sister, Annette Markwell; mother-in-law, Cookie Piper. Melvin took great pride in his 20 years of service at Scotty’s Contracting and Stone in Bowling Green, KY. He was a board member at Kirkwood Lake where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His granddaughter used to tease her papaw about drinking coffee in the early mornings with his old and feeble friends at Wood’s Bait Shop. Melvin could be seen driving around town in his Ford Ranger (“Danger Ranger”) that is responsible for taking out more deer than all deer hunters combined.
He is survived by his wife Sherry Hornsby of Central City; daughters, Ashley (EJ) Shultz of Greenville, Brandy Smith Spradlin of Powderly, Gabrielle Shanks of Henderson and Danielle (Michael) Hearld of Bremen; son, Tristen (Reghan) Noffsinger of Central City; grand-daughter Presley Jade Spradlin and Piper Daniel; sister, Donna (Jeff) Graham; brother, Walter Hornsby; In-Laws, Lisa (Steve) Farris, Janice Darlene Devine, Linda Arnold, Durwood (Carolyn) Arnold, Russell Shelton; brother-in-law, Anthony (Sherry) Arnold.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Tucker Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Lindsay officiating. Burial will follow in Corley Chapel Cemetery.
