Sacramento- Marvin Nelson Arnett, 71, of Sacramento went home to be with our heavenly father Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 2:04 PM. He had been a resident of Hillside Villa Health and Rehab Center in Madisonville since January. He was born the eldest of four children on August 6, 1939 to Courtland and Marie Matheny Arnett. He lived in Muhlenberg County until he met and married his sweet heart Shelby Jean Davis on October 7, 1961. They moved to McLean County eventually settling in Sacramento. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping with his family at Pond River and Lake Barkley. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited for many years. He also loved to garden, raising two or three gardens every year. He was a retired coal miner who worked at several different Peabody mines for thirty-three years. His friends and coworkers at the mines affectionally named him “Radio” since he loved to talk. He never met a stranger and he loved meeting people everywhere. He was an army veteran serving county for two years, and during that time he received training in Fort Knox, then was stationed in Colorado. He was a member of Towers Chapel United Methodist Church where he was song leader for over thirty years. He loved to sing and he had a beautiful voice for both leading the singing and doing solos. He loved gospel music especially the “McKamey‘s”, also Elvis and Ray Charles. Even in his last days at Hillside Villa, he would witness for Christ, asking people if they were ready if the Lord came, and singing Amazing Grace to them. Him and his wife Shelby, along with his brother in law and sister in law, Junior and Opal Tucker, were UMYF councilors for several years. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Courtland and Marie Matheny Arnett. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of almost fifty years, Shelby of Sacramento, one daughter Ramona (Moni) Arnett also of Sacramento, one son Jason (Katlin) Arnett of Alabama, four grandchildren, Jeremiah and Gina Arnett of Manitou, KY, Leah Beshears of Madisonville, KY, and Mylinda Turner of Arlington, KY. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Two Sisters, Carol (Leon) Poole of Owensboro, KY, Judy (David) Hope of Nebo, and one brother Mike (Georgina) Arnett of Lexington, TX. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento, KY. Burial will follow in Free Union Cemetery in Sacrament, KY. Visitation will be held Monday, June 6. 2011 after 5:00 PM at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento, KY.
