ISLAND – Martha Jane Nall Tucker, 83, of Island, died Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 7:53AM at Heartford House in Owensboro. Mrs. Tucker was born April 9, 1939 in Island, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Ike Nall and Jennie Frances Polluck Nall.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jackie Tucker; son, Stan (Tonia) Tucker of Owensboro; daughter, Robin (Kim) Swift; grandsons, Tyler Swift and Jordan Swift; granddaughters, Andrea (B.J.) Shelton and Allison Tucker; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Patricia Hardison of Livermore and Edna Bates of Sacramento.

There wasn’t anything Martha couldn’t do once she put her mind to it. Martha was cast in many roles with the Green River players. She had a passion for reading and a gift of writing. She and a close friend, Judy Wood, took on the adventure of writing and publishing a book titled, “The Legend of The Sunakorn” dedicated to her oldest granddaughter, Andrea. After 34 years of teaching, Martha had many adventures. She worked for the late Dr. Scott of Livermore as well as taught for JTPA (adult education program). She went on to become co-owner of “Mrs. Janey’s Tea Room” with her two sisters. She loved seeing and visiting with all their patrons. One of her fondest memories was the trip to Disney World with her sisters and niece, Edna, Patricia, and MaryAnn. While she will be missed greatly, her family finds comfort in knowing that again she will be “Martha Jane” at her best. The Tucker family would also like to thank Maple Manor and The Heartford House for their love and care.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 9, 2022 at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Bro. John Galyen and Bro. Tommy Webb officiating. Burial in New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at 9:00AM at the funeral home. The Tucker family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Heartford House, 2914 Old Hartford Rd., Owensboro, KY. I remember she took the entire fifth grade class to Sacramento roller rink for a skate party, my first such life affirming event. I always considered her to be my favorite teacher. Most of the boys in our class had a crush on her, and would race up the hill from school each morning to volunteer to carry her books to class. When I was at a loss as to a book for a book report, she suggested a biography about Lou Gehrig. That book had a hard, orange cover. I like to think that Ms Nall instilled a sense of adventure and desire to read. May she rest in peace. She lives on in our collective memories.

Your family lost a loving wife , mother and grandmother I lost a very dear friend of many wonderful years and miles traveled all over this country . Late nights working on books at our lakehouse on beautiful Barkley Lake . Lots of laughs and she was one good shopper and bargain hunter fun days on Long Beach Miss too sunburned to drive home and don’t forget the days at our FL Beach house Flights to speak at various conventions. Martha I have missed these last few years when you health was gone but you are with our Lord that we loved where all things are new watch for Judy and I we will be there soon loved you beautiful Christian lady .

I am so sorry for the passing of Ms Tucker. She has always been such a special presence in my life. I will be praying for you all that God wraps His loving arms around you.

I did not know Martha had passed away until I read it in the newspaper about 10:55 AM this morning (Friday). I have a copy of the book Martha and Judy wrote. I know she will be greatly missed. Prayers for strength and comfort for all of you.

To the entire family- Martha Jane was always such a joy to be around. She will be missed by many, but none more than you. Remembering all of you in my thoughts & prayers. May God comfort you now & in the days ahead as only He can do.

Mrs, Tucker was my favorite teacher at Island School. She was so nice. My brother felt the same. Although we moved away, I always had fond memories of Island School. My sincere condolences to her family.

Mrs. Martha Tucker was the best, there was nothing she couldn't teach.She has touched my life in so many ways. Thank you Mrs. Tucker. May you sore with the angles for you are one.

Artie and I have many great memories of Martha Jane. She added so much to our sons lives as a teacher. She was a great school mate. When Stan played ball and Jackie called the game if he called Stan out no one could yell louder than Martha Jane

I was invited as this “girl from NY” to go to a 4H show. That was 30+ years ago & the sweet smile on Miss Marth Jane’s face- to see me there - was astonishing !! She was some lady !! There is NO DOUBT that she is having a blast up in Heaven. Hug Beverly & Brian for me & I will see you again. This is NOT goodbye it’s only see ya. ❤️

Robin, your sweet Mother was my all-time favorite teacher. I was fortunate enough to have her in 1st grade and 5th grade. She was a wise woman with a wonderful sense of humor. I know she will be greatly missed. Much love and sincere condolences, Barbara Whitehead

Mrs. Tucker was my favorite teacher at Island Elementary. Her love of teaching and her students was astounding! She made a lasting impact on many lives. She will be greatly missed. May God cover her family in peace knowing she lived a life well lived.

A true friend, excellent teacher, a loving mother ,great grandmother, she loved being around her sisters. I loved her stories about john richard , the most talented women I know except Hillary Clinton she would have liked that I said that. I will miss her so jackie you were good to her?

She was the very best loving teachers I ever had she believed in all her students , she put me in many 4H plays gave me the lead roles which we always won : I will never forget our trips to the states fair in Louisville it was so fun but she made them funnier , She would get right in there with us students and have a good time , She never let me struggle she explained it & took her time and worked with me I love her

Absolutely loved Martha. What a delight she was. Always smiling and giving a word of encouragement. The love she had for her family was to be noted. What a wonderful example she was to so many. She will be greatly missed.
