POWDERLY – Mark Howard Troutman, 59, of Powderly, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born September 13, 1957, in Daviess County. He was preceded in passing by his wife of 35 years, Barbara Troutman. He is survived by one son, Jason Piper of Livermore; two daughters, Christina Pendley (Dr. Jason Pendley) of Utica and Mollie Troutman of Greenville; his mother, Patsy Sutherlin of Island; two sisters, Karen Kitchens and Patty Belle Dame, both of Island; and five grandchildren, Laura Pendley, Jaggar Level, Traysten Level, Ashley Ford, and Montana Piper. Mark loved to pass his time with family and sharing anything about his family history, and country/bluegrass music. He was conscious and proud of his ancestors who lived and worked the land around the lower Green River for 200 some odd years before him. Mark had a mystic eye, like old mountain men. The miracle of creation appeared to him while wandering in the woods or strolling along a creek bank, typically followed by some mutt or raccoon his kinship and generosity had attracted. Mark felt a connection to his home’s rich cultural heritage. His scarce time here was spent somewhere near a radio blaring ancient fiddle sounds and high lonesome tenors. John Prine’s “Paradise”, Tom T. Hall’s “Old Side of Town”, and John Hartford’s “In Tall Buildings”. These songs were more than just music to Mark, they were living history and a reminder of the old-time way. A time when people paid their debts to the natural world and knew their place within it’s limits. “Goodbye to the sunshine, goodbye to the dew, goodbye to the flowers, and goodbye to you”. Though we will never see Mark again on this side of life, his memory will keep us company until the day we join him. We find comfort in a vision of him reunited with Barbara, just sitting on a front porch somewhere outside of time. Services will Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 3:30PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Ronnie Dame officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday after 2:00PM at the funeral home.
