To my old friend SFC Allen with whom I served with for over two decades, I have to say this; you had some rough edges, you were cantankerous most of the time and you spoke whatever was on your mind (that got me and you in trouble quite often) but deep down (I mean way down inside) you were of a kind and gentle spirit and very caring. I will miss you! We laughed together, cried together, cussed and prayed together. We rejoiced and suffered some tragic circumstances. We watched our children grow into men and women. So Sergeant, I will salute you one last time, bid farewell to an old friend and fellow soldier. I will ask that when you get to your new duty station up there, hold that classic Lenard Allen tongue. I don't want the Old Man up there to discharge you. I will miss you Bubba.

I am so sorry for your sudden loss. Your choice of obit photos made me smile though. I could clearly hear him saying "someone will think the real Santa died!" He may not have been the real Santa but he sure brought joy to everyone he met. I know your hearts will have a giant hole and I pray that happy memories will help you fill it.
