Larry Reed Hatfield, age 69, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, in Owensboro, Kentucky after a courageous battle with Stage 4 adenocarcinoma. Throughout his illness, Larry faced each day with courage, strength, and determination. He fought his battle with the same fearless spirit and perseverance that carried him through a lifetime of adventures. His bravery and courage will forever be remembered.

Born on March 29, 1957, in Williamson, West Virginia to James Willard Hatfield and Lillian Varney, Larry lived a life full of adventure, hard work, and unforgettable stories.

As a young man, Larry worked with racehorses at Hazel Park Raceway in Michigan before proudly serving in the United States Army. He later built a career as a bus and truck driver, spending countless miles behind the wheel. The open road became his second home, carrying him across the country and filling his life with adventure, unforgettable experiences, friendships, and stories that only Larry could tell.

Larry was independent, strong-willed, and unapologetically himself. He had a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Whether through his stories, his humor, or the memories he created, Larry had a way of bringing smiles and laughter to those around him. He lived life on his own terms and was never someone easily forgotten.

In his later years, Larry found peace in Greenville, Kentucky, where he shared his home with his loving and devoted companion, Julie Patterson English. Together, they enjoyed traveling and the simple joys of everyday life. Larry became a father figure to Julie’s daughter, Sara, and a grandfather figure to her children, Aaron, Elijah, and Ean, as well as a great-grandfather figure to Liam. He was also a father figure to a close family friend, Ethan. Larry held a special place in his heart for his niece, Tabitha Hatfield, who was there to bring him comfort and support during his final days.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James Willard Hatfield and Lillian Varney (Bob); and his siblings, William “Bill”, Jack, Roger, Greg and George Hatfield; and his great-grandchild, Vanessa Snow.

He is survived by his children, Amanda Emmerich (Nathan), Katie Hatfield, Jason, Jeffrey, and Samantha. He is also survived by his former spouse, Julie Walton Hatfield and her children, whom he helped raise and loved as a stepfather: Kylie Poteet (John), Mike Snow (Melanie), Julie Snow (Justin Wells), Shauna Snow (Randy Mangum), Chris Snow (Lindsay), and Jenna Snow (Kaz Linza).

Larry also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Savanna, Carter, Rushton, Angelina, Abbie, Madison, Bailee, Riley, Kaylee, Cameron, Sean, Hazel, and two great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Kestyn Snow.

He is also survived by his brothers, Bruce (Sandy) Hatfield and Jimmy Hatfield; his sisters, Kay Hatfield, Joyce Hatfield, and Tina Newsome; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Family and friends are invited to gather for viewing on August 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Green River Citizens Center, 335 East 175 South, Green River, Utah, with a. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post #3.

Larry’s strength, courage, humor, and unforgettable spirit touched many lives. Though he will be deeply missed, the stories he shared, the laughter he brought, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
