Kenneth Norris Mercer

November 24, 1936 - May 2, 2020

CENTRAL CITY- Kenneth Norris Mercer, 83, of Central City passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born November 24, 1936, in Rochester to the late Raymond F. and Nell Hays Mercer. He was a 1955 graduate of Central City High School and a 1959 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. He began his banking career with First Federal Savings and Loan of Central City in 1960. In 1983, he joined First Federal Savings and Loan in Russellville as President. He retired in 1993 as CEO and Chairman of The Board of Trans Financial Bank of Kentucky. He also served as a director for the Kentucky Savings and Loan Association. During his 33 years in banking, he served his communities as president of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Central City Jaycees, the Central City Lions Club and the Russellville Rotary Club. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Central City. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marilyn Kaye Revo Mercer and daughter-in-law, Tabitha Gibson Mercer. Survivors include his sons, Mike (Gloria) Mercer and Steve Mercer both of Central City; grandchildren, Whitney Mercer Dillingham and Terra Lee Huddleston of Central City; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Mercer of Owensboro and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private with Bro. Mark Jones officiating. The burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family request expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the First United Methodist Church of Central City. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Larry so sorry for your loss. I remember your brother he helped me start my first savings account.I am so sorry to here of his passing, may the peace without understanding that comes from our Lord Jesus Christ be .with all the Mercer family. May God Bless Dan Arnett.

I'm sorry we can't give our condolences in person. Kaye and Ken have been our friends since the late '50s. They were our witnesses at our wedding in 1960. We talked with Ken once a month since Kaye died, and tried to call him mid-March to tell him Pat Houston had died. Finally called the Courtyard and Bonnie said he was at Maple Manor after a stroke. We thought we would get to see him after this quarantine is over. Our circle of friends is getting smaller, and we will miss him and his dry humor. Love to all. June and Ron Jones

One of my closest friends and classmate of CCHS Class of l955. We will all surely miss Ken's friendship and fun personally. He was an all-around great person who loved his family deeply. Our prayers are for Mike and Steve and all the family in this time of sorrow. May God Bless you. I know he is rejoicing with his dear Kaye.

Ken was such a nice and kind man. He was loved by many and will be missed by many. Sending prayers for comfort for Steve, Mike and Gloria and the entire family.

Ken was a good kind person. I have known him many years. ken and Kaye were our neighbors when we lived in Gas Light Park. Our kids grew up together. May God give the family peace and comfort.

Ken was one of those rare individuals that saw the good in everyone. We always enjoyed his company. Mike,Steve and family, you'll surely miss him but take solace that he is back with his precious Kay and they are now exploring Heaven together. May you find comfort in the ensuing difficult days.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Mike and Steve. Your dad was always so kind and positive. He was definitely a gentle soul and so devoted to his family. I know you'll miss him!
