GREENVILLE – Johnnie Edward Evitts, 75, of Greenville, died Monday, January 24, 2011 at 4:30AM at Owensboro Medical Health System. Mr. Evitts was born September 19, 1935 in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired welder with Kentucky Utilities, a member of East Union Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Melba Stevens Evitts; sons Billy (Stephanie) Evitts of Greenville and John David Pentecost of Georgetown; a daughter, Sherry (Jim) Beasley of Englewood, Florida; grandchildren Cory Beasley, Tyler Beasley, Maggie Evitts, Parker Evitts, and Adrianna Workman; great-grandchildren Grace Pentecost and Weston Pentecost; and sisters Faye (Kenneth) Galyen and Freda (Terry) McCay, all of Graham. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 1:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Ray Gilliland officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. I remember as a young girl visiting and Uncle Johnnie coming home to his family and saying to me "how's my favorite niece? " Later on I realized that he said that to everyone of us because everyone of us was special to him. He was special to us. We'll see him someday when we go home.

Johnnie was a kind and gentle man. One of my fondest memories of him was when Parker was a baby and he had the colic. Johnnie came over and rocked him all night. Parker will always treasure the special times that he and papaw shared together. Melba and Family, I am sorry for your loss.
