GREENVILLE – John Patrick Roll, 78, of Greenville, died Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 9:20PM at his residence in Greenville. Mr. Roll was born May 29, 1945 in Louisville. John was very involved in local area sports and worked hard to enrich the lives of youth in Muhlenberg County. John dedicated over 50 years of service to the Little League Baseball Organization. He became the first person from Kentucky elected to the Little League Baseball and Softball’s International Board of Directors. He was recently inducted into the Muhlenberg County Sports Hall of Fame. He was very influential in Greenville Basketball in his day, playing there and doing public announcing. He loved his Greenville Blackhawks. He was married to Betty Jon Roll for more than 45 years. They spent a lot of time traveling to various sporting events around the United States. John had a special relationship with his daughter, Gwen, and they loved any time they got to spend together. In later years, he enjoyed a special relationship with his long-time friend, Sharon Noffsinger, and her family. They continued to go to various sporting events. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and Army Reserve, and he was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jon Roll; mother, Jewel Roll and father, Henry Brown Roll.
He is survived by his daughter, Gwen (Jason) Courtney; grandchildren, Justin Courtney, and Jonathan Courtney; brother, Mike Roll; sister, Mildred Ruth “Mimi” Roll; nephew, Michael “Kevin” (Jen) Roll; and niece, Erica (James) Hayes.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Laura Kathryn Vincent officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
