BREMEN – On Sunday, September 6, 2026, John Micheal McRoy, 73, of Bremen, passed away at the Heartford House in Owensboro, KY. John was born July 26, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois.
While John only had two biological children and two brothers, his found family was vast. Initially his size intimidated many, but they quickly found out he was a giant teddy bear. John was born with the heart of a volunteer which led to him establishing the local chapters of Just Say No and Champions Against Drugs of Muhlenberg County. He was a longtime member of Green River Chapel Church serving as member, youth leader and deacon. He proposed opening the church to bring in Heaven’s Gates, Hell’s Flame. He was a coal miner of nearly thirty years working underground maintenance as “Baby John.” He taught mine safety to adults and teens over the next 10+ years. And, he was proud to join the local Gideons chapter.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley McRoy; mother, Arline; and step-sister, Sue Sigers.
His survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dianna McRoy; his children, Mariah (Tory) Horner and John McRoy II; his brothers, James (Chris) McRoy and Jerrell (Debra) McRoy; and his three grandsons, Addison (Aven) Horner, Camden Horner, and Canaan Horner.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 2:00PM at Green River Chapel Church in Central City, with Bro. Jewel Martin and Bro. Larry Shadowen officiating. Visitation will begin on Sunday at 1:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, John had requested donations be made to the Gideons Organization of which he was a proud member.
