CENTRAL CITY – John Arnold Chinn, 91, of Central City, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 23, 2023. Mr. Chinn was born April 13, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was an electrical engineer with Sigma Instruments. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving four years in the Korean War. He was sworn in by his father, chief recruiter at Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston. Mr. Chinn enjoyed hunting, especially deer and turkey. He also enjoyed guns and race cars, and his prize possession car was his “Morgan + 4”. He was an avid reader, and was a very smart but humble man. He loved history and genealogy, and traveled with his daughter, Katy, to many Civil War battlefields. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henri and Monica Chinn.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol Hughes Chinn; daughter, Katy Zero and her husband, Joseph, who he thought of as his own son; brother, David Chinn; and sister, Joyce Cormeir.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 29, 2023, at 12:00 noon at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with David Anderson officiating. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday after 10:00AM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to National Rifle Association, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030.
