CENTRAL CITY – Jerry Franklin O’Bannon, Sr of Central City, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday September 19, 2024. He was born in Muhlenberg County on December 31, 1944 to the late Benjamin Franklin O’Bannon, Jr and Anna Laura Pointer O’Bannon. Jerry was married to Betty Katherine Wilson O’Bannon on August 9, 1965 and they raised their large family together and enjoyed watching their grandchildren until her death in 2016. Jerry worked in the coal mines until he suffered a disabling injury; he was an avid fisherman and loved to deer hunt with his children. He was a member of Richardson’s Chapel General Baptist Church. Along with his parents and wife, Jerry was preceded in death by his son Roy O’Bannon, brother Timmy O’Bannon, brother Bobby O’Bannon, Sister Lisa Jackson, brother Eddie O’Bannon, an infant grandson, and great-granddaughter Serenity Grace O’Bannon.
He is survived by his children Jerry Jr. (Michelle) O’Bannon of Beech Creek, Sheryl (Mike) Patton of Central City, Judy (Tim) Hunter of Ashland City, TN, Terry O’Bannon of Central City, Carol (Todd) Elswick of Belton, Lishia O’Bannon (Jimmy Furlough) of Pegram, TN, Troy O’Bannon of Central City. He is also survived by his grandchildren Megan Hunter (Chelsea Cluesman), Ashley Hand, Austin (Lindsey) Hunter, Ashley (Gavin) Hill, Blake O’Bannon, Tyson O’Bannon, Alexis (Dylan) Smith, Janie (Logan) Brown, JT (Maddi) Elswick, Matthew Patton, Katelyn Patton, Mackenzie (Jamie) Caswell, Kaleigh Anne (Isaac) Smith, Hayden O’Bannon; great-grandchildren Paislee O’Bannon, Piper O’Bannon, Dylan Hill, Josie Hill, Aurora Caswell, Tucker Caswell, Millie Caswell, Charlie Smith, Reid Thomas Brown, Navy Hunter, Oliver Smith, Annaleigh Smith; siblings Anna Jewell Hawks, Martha Pendley, Michael (Linda) O’Bannon, Steve O’Bannon, and Sandy (Don) Garrett; Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
There will be a private memorial service for immediate family only (children/grandchildren) on Thursday, September 20, 2024, at 1PM at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly. Burial to follow.
