Jeff and I were stationed together in both the regular Army and the Kentucky National Guard and Technician program. I remember Jeff as a highly dedicated individual; always focused on achieving nothing but the best for his Soldiers and the unit. I met Jeff when I was young and had just joined the Army. Being new at my first duty station ( Ft Riley Ks) I met Jeff and became friends. That was his way, he was friends with everyone he met. That was 31 years ago. Our kids grew up together and when I would visit, Jeff and Rose would make it known to me that I was always welcome in their home. Over the years I felt towards Jeff as a brother, not just as a friend. I truly loved him and there will be an empty space in my heart for the rest of my life. True friends are hard to find and I was blessed to have known him.

I deployed with Jeff to Iraq in 2006-2007. I always remember the time we had together in the evenings drinking near beer and looking up at the night sky spotting satellites and talking about the day's events. He was a great leader for me and the Soldiers who served under him. RIP MSG Kempher!
