CENTRAL CITY – James C. “Jimmy” Brown, 79, of Central City, passed away at his home on the morning of Tuesday, December 15, 2015, surrounded by his family. Jimmy was an Army veteran, Spec 4, and a retired farmer and coal miner. He held public office in the capacity of Deputy Sheriff, Sheriff, County Judge Executive, Magistrate, and State Representative. He was owner of Brown Auction Company for 50 years, as well as Brown’s Carriage Service. He was a member of the Bremen Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Shriner, a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, and a member of the Harlan County Ridge Runners. He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Brown and Ethel Wiggins Brown; and son James Freeman Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Martha Gish Brown; sister Fay Brown Greene of Greenville; daughters Anna Brown and Kay Brown (James) Culver, both of Central City; granddaughters Roxana (Michael) Guy of Franklin, KY, Dana Brown of Owensboro, and Kristi Brown of Bremen; and great-grandsons Jaiden and Liam Guy. Funeral services will be Friday, December 18, 2015, at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Leroy Rearden officiating, assisted by Bro. Don Neal. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday after 4:00PM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Cedar Grove Cemetery Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
