CENTRAL CITY – Dr. James L. Brewer, Sr., 81, of Central City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Drakesboro as the son of James R. and Ruby Wester Brewer. James Loyed graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1952 at Drakesboro High School. He received his Bachelor of Science from Western Kentucky University in 1957. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1961. Following graduation, he returned to Central City and practiced dentistry for 39 years. During those years he was active in several civic organizations. He was a charter member of Central City Country Club. He was a member of Jaycees and the Central City Lions Club. He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, the Kentucky Dental Association, and the Green River Dental Society. During his years of practice, Doc was known and loved by his patients for his gentleness, his love of a good joke, and his humming and whistling serenades. Doc enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking, but his greatest love and enjoyment was spending time with his family. He was an active member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Central City. In his retirement years, he devoted his time on studying God’s Holy Word and developing and sharing his Bible studies. He is survived by his loving family and wife of 60 years, Cherry Bruce Brewer; daughters Patti (Jackie) Perkins, Dr. Susie (Kevin) Hunt, and Teresa (Denny) Pendley; son Dr. Jimmy (Tina) Brewer, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Dr. Jack Perkins, James Perkins, Jenna Payton, Kirsten Hunt, Katelyn Pendley, Kristen Pendley, Mackenzie Brewer, and Bailey Brewer; two great-grandchildren, Alissa and Nolan Jack Perkins. Special thanks to Dr. Bernard Buchanan, Nurse Joy, and Hospice of Western Kentucky. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 1:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Chase Thompson and Bro. Don Dossett officiating. Burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8PM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Gideons International or the cooperative program through First Baptist Church of Central City.
