CENTRAL CITY – Imogene Mercer, 101, of Central City, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at 8:52AM at her home. Mrs. Mercer was born January 31, 1918, in Hopkins County. She retired from the Graham Post Office after 32 years of service and was a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Mercer loved her Lord. She loved worshiping at Unity Missionary Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member. She taught Sunday School and served as church treasurer. She loved her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed nothing better than a peanut butter milkshake. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Eldogene Hobgood Pethel; son Kermit Mercer; husband of 36 years Eldon Mercer; parents Cliff and Jewell Gibbons; sisters Effie Hibbs and Nell Page; and brothers Johnny Gibbons, Wayne Gibbons, and Tom Gibbons. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Carlton) Stacy of Central City; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; sister Ruby Gascoigne; brother Ronald (Louise) Gibbons; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, February 22, 2019, at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Jerry Eades officiating. Burial in Unity Cemetery.
