GREENVILLE – Mr. Guy Louard Overbey, age 95, of Greenville, died on Sunday, January 8, 2017. He was born in Caldwell County, Kentucky, to the late Guy Kelley Overbey and Topsy Wyatt Overbey. He was a member of First Christian Church in Greenville, where he was a long-time deacon and elder. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Overbey served in the Pacific during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a Past Master of Pond River Masonic Lodge and a Past Worthy Grand Patron of the Kentucky Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Overbey was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deanna Overbey, and sister, Sara Aikins. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Mary Lynn Dearing Overbey; son, Douglas Overby (Gail) of Florence, Alabama; daughter, Karen Gentry (Bill) of Lexington, Kentucky; granddaughter, Carol Overby Cummings (Mike) of Greenbrier, Tennessee; grandsons, Jay Gentry of Gainesville, Florida, and Ross Gentry of Asheville, North Carolina; great-granddaughter, Hannah Cummings of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and sister, Betty Forgy of Princeton, Kentucky Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Mr. Paul Moore officiating. Visitation will be after 11:00 AM at the funeral home with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
