LEXINGTON – Greeba Fe London, age 96, passed into the arms of Jesus on November 2, 2023, peacefully at her home in Lexington, KY.  She was surrounded by her loving family.  She was the last member of, “the greatest generation.”  She was born in Muhlenberg County where she was raised on a farm by her parents and with her two younger sisters.  She loved to ride in her grandfather’s mule drawn wagon to go into Greenville and get some candy on Saturdays and ride to church on Sundays.  In the heart of the depression, in 1937, her dad started the winter with $5 in his wallet and the following spring had $7 yet she never lacked necessities.  She worked hard on the farm and in the home as well as at school.  She graduated high school and worked in a hemp factory making rope during WWII.  Enamored by a dashing young sailor home from the Pacific, she fell in love with and married Alfred London in March, 1946.  She gave birth to her first daughter, Robin, in November, 1947.  She worked as a bookkeeper and earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Brescia College commuting from Greenville to Owensboro.  Luanne, her second daughter, was born in November, 1960.  She subsequently finished her master’s degree in Education from Brescia college.  She helped her husband establish London construction Company and establish family run nursing homes.  She faithfully attended and loved Second Baptist Church in Greenville, KY where as a lover of Jesus she taught Sunday School for fifty years.  Widowed in 1992, she persevered on loving her family, her church, her friends, and her work.  Although her first love remained Muhlenberg County, she moved to Lexington in 2020 due to failing health to be closer to her family.  She adored the antics of her youngest great granddaughters, their presence revitalizing her.  Three-year-old dressed up girls, with bows in their hair, running through the house and jumping on the bed was allowed if not even encouraged.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Gardner and Kindred Stovall, her husband; Alfred London, and her sister; Ann Clark.  She is survived by her daughters; Robin Chalkley (Jud) and Luanne Fielden.  She is survived by her five grandchildren; Josh Chalkley (Susannah), Anna Cox (Michael), Drew Chalkley (Leah), Micah Fielden (Allie), Christian Fielden (Evanne) and eight great grandchildren; Isobel Chalkley, Joshua Chalkley, Elijah Chalkley, Noelle Chalkley, Jeremiah Cox, Liam Cox, James Chalkley and Rose Chalkley.  She is also survived by her sister; Lou Austin.

Visitation will be at Second Baptist Church, 217 West Depot St., Greenville, KY, on Monday, November 6, from 5-8 pm (CST).  The funeral will be at Second Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 7, at 11 am with Bro. Bob Thurman officiating and Bro. Kevin Milburn assisting.  Bro. Mike Brady will officiate the committal service at Evergreen cemetery.   Mrs. London loved bright colors instead of the traditional black and requested they be considered for both services.
