CENTRAL CITY – Gertrude Catherine Murphy, 100, of Central City, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 16, 2011 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville, KY. She was born October 5, 1911 in Graham, KY, and was a homemaker. She was a born again Christian and member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Central City, KY. She loved her home. She welcomed everyone with “come in, how are you?, glad to see you, do you want something to eat”? She and Henry were always there to help the family, friends, or neighbors. They were also avid Rook and Rummy card players with family and friends, especially their nephew and niece Jimmy and Roma Cobb. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, James Henry Murphy (December 1982); sons James Earl Murphy (July 1926), James Clifton Murphy (December 1931), and Donald Ray (Carolyn) Murphy (October 2007); daughter Dorthy Louise (Bernard) Byars (March 2008); brothers Gabe (Eva) Woodruff, Corbett (Lucille) Woodruff, Robert (Maggie) Woodruff, and J.P. (Marie) Mencer; sisters Nancy Rosie Bell (Sylvester) Vaught, Lucille (Cad) Pierce, and Edith (Howard) Cobb; numerous aunts, uncles, step-sisters, step-brothers, half-sisters, and half-brothers. Survivors include her son, Bobby Eugene (Gay) Murphy of Romeoville, IL; daughters Wanda Marie (Kenneth) Nofsinger, Shirley Fay (Carl) Hopgood, Rebecca Nell (Robert) Gatto, and Betty Joyce (James) Hardin, all of Central City; great-niece Anna Lou (Buster) Bradshaw; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Leroy Vaught officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
