George Martin Drake

December 17, 1924 - September 22, 2016

CENTRAL CITY – George Martin Drake, age 91, passed away on September 22, 2016, at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was born in Cleaton on December 17, 1924. George was a World War II veteran, serving as a Sergeant in the Army from 1943-1946. He served in the liberation of the Philippines and the Battle of Leyte. He retired in 1986 from the Kirkpatrick Mines and Pittsburgh Midway after 37 years. He was an honorary member of the Masonic Lodge in Central City. He has been a member of Woodson Baptist Church since the 1960’s. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children Helen Henry (David) of Central City, Wanda Thompson (Billy) also of Central City, Wayne Drake (Karen) of Bremen, Letty Jones of Florida, and his brothers, Rondle Drake (Joyce) of Central City and Bobby Lacefield of Hopkinsville. He is also survived by grandchildren Pam Adler (Shane), Lisa Thompson (John), Rhonda Abbott (Tim), Mark Thompson (Missy), Johnathan Drake (Heather), Melanie Case (Jason), Riza Jones, Gregg Henry (Lisa), and Beth Pate (Bob). Other survivors include 19 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Drake was preceded in death by his wife Mary of 70 years; sisters Christine Culbertson and Martha Parker; brothers Allie Drake and Buel Drake; great-grandson Jason Lacy; and sons-in-law Jerry Mencer and Dale Jones. Services will be held at the Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, KY with visitation Sunday, September 25th from 5:00-9:00. The funeral service will be Monday, September 26th at 2:00 with Bro. Curtis McGehee and Bro. Nick Duvall officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors.

So sad to hear my wonderful uncle george has died my daddy's brother, I feel heartbroken , no matter what age they live to be it's still sad , as a kid we couldn't wait to see him as a grown up he still made you feel like a kid when you seen him, it will be so sad to come to Kentucky to see my parents and not to see uncle George and aunt Mary anymore, I will forever miss them both, you both were wonderful !!!! Iam happy to know uncle George is not with aunt Mary ..... Will love you forever uncle George ........

The Drake Family wasn't blood kin but all my life they have been like family..George, Mary and rest of family was just good people..Always kind word seemed every time I saw them and so enjoyed being around them..He is at peace now with her..We never know who will be next...May you each feel the love of our Jesus..

I was sorry to read this news. George was a very, very, nice fellow. I always enjoyed seeing him and treating him as my patient. Mary, his wife, would bring me homemade pies...they were a wonderful couple. Wayne...Mary...you had great parents and I know you will miss them...My thoughts are with you.
