CENTRAL CITY – Gary Duane Shanks, 70, of Central City, died Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 3:06PM at his residence in Central City. Mr. Shanks was born February 12, 1954 in Muhlenberg County. He was a member of Green River Chapel General Baptist Church. He loved worshipping God above all, and loving his family. He was an avid baseball, softball, and basketball player for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, Jackie Shanks; mother, Edna Hendrix; step-father, Thomas Hendrix; and brother, Terry Shanks.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Shanks; son, Thomas (Renee) Shanks; grandchildren, Sabrina Shanks, Tyson Shanks, and Daniel Shanks; sisters, Kathy Piper, Cristal Butts, and Dawn Shanks; brother, Larry Hendrix; nephews, Eric Piper, Michael, Thomas, and John Paul Shanks; and great-nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 1PM at Green River Chapel Baptist Church in Central City with Bro. Jewell Martin and Bro. Larry Shadowen officiating. Tucker Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.

Gary was such a sweet man and will be missed by many. My love and prayers are with the whole family.

I worked with Gary many yrs ago at Jr Food. Kathy Fulkerson, Phyllis and of course Wanda. Gary was one of the funniest people I know. He and Cindy made up a great family, friendship duo. To Cindy and family, y’all are in my prayers.

Think a lot of you all. So sorry for your loss Cindy. Friends forever. Rest in peace my friend.

I'm so sad to learn that we have lost our classmate, Gary. He and Terry were both special friends to me growing up. Prayers for Cindy and family that they may find peace.
