His laugh and stories endless and a fantastic friend to mom and dad, Albert & Gladys. To me he was like part of the family as he was part of our family gatherings along with Miss Liz. He will be missed very much but also gave us great memories.

Dear Elizabeth and Family, So sorry to hear of Garnett's passing. He was truly a valued member of our family, and will be missed. We especially will miss him at our annual "Lile Family Reunion". His warmth and charming personality made him one of a kind. Wish he would have written a life story - I know he had a good interesting full life. Loved talking with him. He will be missed by many people whose lives he has touched. He was a smart, sweet, fun and kind person. Rest in Peace Garnett.

I first met Garnett almost 65 years ago when I started the first grade at Willow Glen School. Garnett was in the eighth grade and his brother Fitzhugh was in the seventh grade. They were my big buddies. My mother had been recruited by the school trustee, Andy Carter, who lived next door to the school which had eight grades in one room. I still remember the recruiting visit on our front porch. Apparently, they were having some difficulty in filling the position, so he agreed to let me enter school although I was not quite old enough according to the law in Ky. This early entry into the first grade broadened my understanding of human relationships. My memories of that year are almost all positive. Many students were appreciative of my mother’s efforts. Garnett and Fitzhugh were two of the nicest people I encountered. For most of my adult life, I have lived outside Kentucky . For much of this time, Garnett also lived outside of the area. Throughout all this period, Garnett made an effort to say hello when we both visited our old county. Garnett liked people and cherished the memories of his acquaintances. The last time I saw Garnett was at the funeral home when my mother died in 2006. A little later, I was pleasantly surprised on one Thanksgiving morning to get a call from Garnett. Although our contacts were sporadic, I will feel a sense of loss of one who was an important person in one of my formative years. He was truly a nice person. John Mooningham Saginaw, Michigan

Dear Elizabeth and Family, So sorry to hear of Garnett's death. He was my distant cousin from Solomon Rhoades line. I have only known him for a few years after I discovered my many great grandfathers were Solomon and Captain Henry through Sarah Rhoades. My prayers and thoughts go with you in your sorrow. He was such a funny, likeable person and will be missed. Much love to all of you during this time. Galena Fulkerson

Garnett was a long-time member of South Louisiana Retriever Club. He was a tireless worker and avid follower of the sport. The SLRC fall Amateur All-Age trophy is named for Garnett. There are many Garnett stories here in south Louisiana, most of them humorous. He had many, many close friends here among his hunting buddies and field trialers. Elizabeth is a saint for putting up with all of us over the years. I miss Garnett's voice "aiee".
