Eloise Hess, 96, died Tuesday morning, May 18, 2010. She was a resident of The Courtyard in Central City and was the widow of Alexander Hess. Frances Eloise Hill was born Aug. 26, 1913, in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived there for 86 years. She graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1933 in home economics education. She and Alex married in 1937 and raised their three children, who survive her, Marilyn Kucera of Bardstown, Kennon Hess of Houston and Kathy Miller of Central City. Eloise was a community leader in South Buffalo. Over the years, she served in various roles in Girl Scouts, PTA and childhood education. She was president of Buffalo’s Lorraine Academy PTA and South Park High School Community Association. For many years, she was a deacon in South Park United Presbyterian Church. She loved her home and family and inspired beauty and serenity in her surroundings. She has often been described as the “ultimate homemaker.” In 1999, Alex and Eloise moved to Texas and, in 2003, they moved to Central City, where they became associated with the First United Methodist Church. Eloise is survived by all her grandchildren, Kathy Aiello, Joe Klink, Patty Gorham, Connie Carman, Kristy Flannery, Lyn Napier, Karen Miller and Janet Miller. She has 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Nelson; and a brother, Gordon Hill, who introduced the Hess family to Kentucky. Public visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Kevin Brown, of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City
