Edward ‘B’ Rickard Published: Sunday, December 13, 2009 12:00 AM CST SACRAMENTO — Edward B Rickard, 93, of Sacramento died at 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at his home. He was born March 6, 1916, in McLean County. He was married to the former Arlene Lee on March 11, 1939, and was a retired construction worker and farmer. He was a member of the Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church since 1946 and served as an elder for 22 years. He enjoyed playing checkers and Rook, riding on his Gator, family get-togethers, meeting with friends at the Blue Jay Cafe, eating tomatoes year-’round and ice cream. He had a unique since of humor and especially enjoyed children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Arlene L. Rickard on Jan. 28, 1996; his parents, Charlie and Gertrude Rickard; two brothers, Webb Rickard and Marvin Rickard; and four sisters, Louise Rickard, Leola Hoagland, Dean Fortune and Hilda Reutter. Survivors include two sons, Eddie (Jenniffer) Rickard and Barry (Myrtle) Rickard, all of Sacramento; a daughter, Lavonne (Brian) Miller of Sacramento; and grandchildren Tisa (James) Davis, Cristal Dunn (Dale Mattingly), Jarrod Rickard (Jennifer Thompson), Joy (Eddie) Miller and Amber Rickard and LaRae Miller; great-grandchildren Kailee Dunn, Kennedy Davis, Eli Dunn, Grace Miller and Allie Ann Rickard; and a special family friend, Marjorie Jennings. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Butler and the Rev. Al Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the church. The Rickard family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Green River Hospice or the Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
