GREENVILLE – Durward Lee Cornette, 83, of Greenville, died Tuesday evening, March 6, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Cornette was born January 29, 1929 in Muhlenberg County. He was a salesman for over 30 years at Zinsmeisters Wholesale Food Distributors in Greenville, and subsequently Wetterau Foods. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Greenville, and loved being surrounded by family. He was an avid antique clock and watch collector for over 50 years, and was a great storyteller. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Veleda Cornette. Survivors include his sons, Daniel (Debbie) Cornette of Greenville and Randy (Sandy) Cornette of Hattiesburg, MS; daughters Patty (Mike) Wright and Lisa (Billy) Steele, all of Greenville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Patsy) Cornette of Greenville; and sister Betty (Larry) Johnson of Hopkinsville. Funeral services will be Friday, March 9, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Second Baptist Church in Greenville, with Dr. Ray England officiating, assisted by Rev. Bob Thurman. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be Thursday after 5:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City.
