GREENVILLE – Dorothy Louise Drake Bey, 71, Greenville, returned to God, Monday, December 26, 2011, at her residence. Born in Greenville, KY on November 9, 1940, she was the daughter of Cordie Mae Johnson and the late Ellsworth Drake. Ms. Bey was a graduate of Drakesboro Community High School and West Kentucky Technical College, earning an associate degree in Business Administration. Immediately following graduation in 1958, she moved to Philadelphia, PA, where she began her career as an Executive Secretary. That career, continued, when she returned to Greenville in 1972, being the Executive Secretary to the Administrator of Muhlenberg Community Hospital. From 1982 until it’s closing in 1995, she was a miner for Moorman Coal (open-pit) Mines. She was one of the 1st female coal miners in Kentucky. During this period, she was the Financial Secretary for Local 2390. Her love and compassion for others, led her to a new career after the closing of Moorman. She earned a Nursing Aide certification, working in home health care until her retirement on January 2011. God’s love radiated through Ms. Bey. One would be hard-pressed to find anyone, in this community, who hasn’t been touched by her love, encouragement, kindness, respect and compassion. She accepted Jesus Christ, as her Lord and Savior, as a child. Since then, she has-tirelessly and lovingly-served him, in many capacities: Church Trustee, Secretary, Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Usher Board President, Choir member, Mentor, Greeter, and Community Outreach. She served as a long–time volunteer for the Salvation Army, Pennyrile Allied Community Services and the Multi-Purpose Center (where she served on the Board-of-Directors). Animals were the recipients of her love, also. Ms. Bey enjoyed sports. She was a high school cheerleader and, throughout adulthood, was a fierce volleyball and tennis player and an avid bowler (with many trophies showcased). She enjoyed watching NCAA men’s basketball, NBA and MLB games. She was preceded in death by her dear friend/ex-husband, Joshua S. Bey and her father, Ellsworth Drake. Left-to forever cherish her memory- are: her children, whom she loved dearly: S. Renee Bey, Greenville, KY. and Chris Bey, Greenville,KY.; mother: Cordie M. Johnson, Greenville; Siblings: Benjamin Pritchett (Marie), Philadelphia, PA.; David Wayne Jernigan, Gary, IN.; Ann (Larry) Elliot, Louisville, KY.; Pat (Marty) Martin, Greenville, KY.
