CENTRAL CITY – Donna Whitmer, 81, of Central City, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at 7:00AM at Maple Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Whitmer was born May 15, 1934, in Belton. She retired from Broadway Jewelry in 2008, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Central City. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to read and make baby blankets, and she enjoyed cooking and canning vegetables. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Warren Whitmer on January 22, 1988; son Phillip Whitmer on November 9, 2006; parents Elmer and Beatrice Downing; sister Della Hyland; and brother Bonal Downing. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Steve) Melton of Central City; brother Larry (Joy) Downing of Bremen; daughter-in-law Barbara Whitmer of Madisonville; sister-in-law Hallie Whitmer of Central City; grandchildren Adam (Faith) Whitmer of Madisonville, Eric (Amanda) Whitmer of Owensboro, Jason (Joy) Melton of Earlington, Brian (Charity) Melton of Greenville, Brook (Micah) Harper of Central City, and Mark Myles of Utica; and great-grandchildren Lillie, J.P., Matthew, Avery, and Lex, and three more great-grandchildren on they way. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 11:00AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Chase Thompson officiating, assisted by Rev. Kevin Reed.
