Donald Claggett Hancock POWDERLY — Donald Claggett Hancock, 72, died at 9:15 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born on Dec. 28, 1937, in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired school teacher and member of Central City Church of Christ. He was formerly the mayor of Powderly. Don retired from the Muhlenberg County Board of Education and was a Kentucky Colonel. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in office working with the people of Powderly. He enjoyed Western movies, memorabilia and UK basketball. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Hancock; a brother, Tom Hancock; and his parents, Noel and Hazel Hancock. Survivors include two stepsons, Allen Brock and Grant Brock of Murray; three stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Turner (Shirley) Hancock of Greenville and Fred (Reta) Hancock of Union City; a sister-in-law, Pat Hancock of Middletown, Ohio; a special friend, Sue Tomes of Powderly; and several nieces and nephews. Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Central City Church of Christ, with Mr. Bob Edlin officiating, assisted by Mr. James Neeley. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation is from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Mr. Hancock will lie in state from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Central City Church of Christ.
