Owensboro – David Lee Hendrix, 79, of Owensboro, KY was welcomed into Heaven, and reunited with his cherished wife Debbie, on April 30th, 2026, following the most courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. David was born on October 16th, 1946, to Marvin and Thelma Hendrix in Greenville, KY. He accepted Christ at a young age and was an ordained Deacon and member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church.
David bravely served his country in the Vietnam War and utilized the GI Bill to attend Western Kentucky University. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in accounting and became a CPA. David spent many years in Federal Taxes at Texas Gas, and retired from Southern Star. His extensive knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and Tax Code was legendary, and highly respected.
David enjoyed fishing, basketball, working in his yard, bargain hunting and anything involving his grandsons. He was known for his integrity, work ethic, ability to fix anything, his jokes and stories, his kindness, and his willingness to always help others. But above all, David was known for the love, support, and generosity he showed his family. He cherished every minute of being a brother, husband, father, father-in-law and Pop. David’s family was his heart, his treasure, and his true legacy.
David married the love of his life, Debbie Crick, on August 8th, 1970. They shared 55 years making wonderful memories until her passing on January 19th, 2026. David was also predeceased by his parents and his in-laws, David and Wanda Crick.
David is survived by his daughter Tamara and her husband Ryan Williams – whom David loved like a son. His three cherished grandsons, David Baron Williams, Ryan Easton Williams and Thadeus Linkon Williams. Siblings Michael and Ruth Hendrix, Sherry Brown, Theresa Martin, Tim and Kathy Hendrix, Cynthia and John Kaszkur and sister-in-law Melissa Street. Special Best Friends Wayne and Lynn Milligan, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank Michael and Ruth Hendrix and Wayne and Lynn Milligan for all the love, kindness and support given during this journey. There are no words to express how much it meant to us. Also, special thanks to Trent Tucker (OHRH), Sarah Call (HPCWKY) and the staff of The Heartford House for the wonderful care David received. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
How lucky we are to have someone so wonderful that makes saying goodbye so hard.
