I just want to say how very sorry I was when I heard about Doc, he was my math Instructor at the college in central city in 2011 and we all thought a lot of him.

Darris "Doc" Everly taught me how to play chess when I was a very young child. He taught our chess club at Central City Elementary School one day a week after school, and it was my absolute favorite day of the week; I was always so terrible at sports and so socially awkward, but I was good at chess and was friends with all the chess club members. He used to give any kid that could beat him a candy bar (the big kind, not the cheap little fun-size candy bars), and I remember the very first Hershey bar I got for beating him. I kept the wrapper in my backpack for weeks. Victory never tasted so sweet. Doc and I played billiards and chess at his house once I got older and they stopped teaching chess in school, and I'm so thankful that I was able to spend so much time with him and his family. You had a really positive influence on my life, Doc. You'll be greatly missed, and I'll think of you anytime I push a pawn or bite into a Hershey bar.

I am so very sorry for your loss! Doc was one of the kindest persons that I have ever had the privilege to know. I know your heart hurts for your loss, but try to draw comfort in knowing that Doc is really happy in his forever home. I have been praying for your comfort in this knowledge. May God bless you in the coming days, weeks, months and years, for all the happiness you gave to Doc while he was here visiting on earth.
