CENTRAL CITY – Daniel Scott Neal, 54, of Central City, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Scott’s transition occurred around noon at Nortons Audubon Hospital in Louisville following a lengthy illness concerning his heart. Scott was born on September 27, 1970 in Madisonville, KY.

Scott made a profession of faith and followed in believer’s baptism at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in 1980. He was a graduate of Central City High School in 1988 and went on to earn multiple bachelor’s degrees at Western Kentucky University. Scott continued his education and earned a Master’s degree.

Upon achieving most of his goals in education Scott began a Teaching Career at Todd County High School and ended that Career at Hancock County High School where he was an English teacher and head of the English Department as well as the Cross Country and Track Coach. Scott was awarded Teacher of the Year and Coach of the Year on two occasions. He also coached student athletes to achieve two State Championships.

Scott loved to read and was a published writer, having written multiple short stories and poems. He also loved music. Although Scott had achieved many accomplishments, he would tell you his greatest achievement is his son Aidan, whom he loved with all his heart and soul.

Scott was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Eck and Francis Neal, maternal grandparents Jim and Naomi Miller and his father Daniel Neal.

Scott is survived by his son, Aidan Neal, Mother and Step Father Deborah and Larry Covington; First Cousin and Best Friend Melissa and Kenny Bruce; Aunt Patricia Rickard and multiple cousins.

In the final hours leading up to his passing, Scott gave the following message:

To the Track and Cross Country Boosters, I appreciated each and every one of my student athletes and their parents. Those times were some of the best times of my life. I am blessed to have known each and every one of you. I appreciated all the personal support from all of the Hancock County High School Cross Country and Track boosters.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 11AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Noah Bruce officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens at a later date. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.

I am so sorry to hear of Scott’s passing. I wish I could be there to give each of his family members a hug and my condolences. Scott was a great man and I am honored to have so many great memories with him! He will be very missed! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I worked with Scott at the Hancock County High School. He was a dedicated teacher and coach. He inspired students with his love of literature and elevated the track team to a winning level. He was a good person to work with. Rest in peace, Scott.

I’ll forever be grateful for Scott as teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. He was a good man and I’m blessed to have known him over the last 30 years. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.

Not every person has the luxery of having a role model and mentor, I was the luckiest because Coach Neal was mine. My path in life would be so different if it weren't for him. From being a mentor on a senior project, to being my coach for 9 years, I cherished every word and piece of advice he gave to me. I am the man, coach, and teacher I am because of him. We will miss you Coach.

Coach was an amazing man and mentor. He was always there learning while he was teaching the kids/athletes. They went through highs and lows together. Sure will miss him. Bit he will remain in our hearts forever.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Debby, my heart hurts for you and your family. Scott's life was a great testament. I'm sending my love and prayers.

A truly amazing person who was loved and valued. Scott, my friend, you will be incredibly missed. Rest peacefully with God and please wait patiently for the rest of us. I look forward to seeing your smile again in heaven.

Aidan, I am so very sorry to learn about your father. With a son like you, I'm sure he was a wonderful man! My prayer are with you and your family. God Bless.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Neal's passing. His kindness and instruction were very influential on me in High School and through the years since. I was reflecting just this week on the challenge he me after graduation to "keep writing" as I submitted my dissertation for publication, and was grateful that his encouragement has stayed with me over the years. His legacy lives on through his family and the students he impacted, and my prayers will be with those who were close to him.

We were saddened to learn of Scott’s passing. We both worked with Scott in Hancock Co and enjoyed his friendship. He talked often about how proud he was of his son, Aidan. We know he will be missed by all of his family and friends and we send our deepest sympathies to those who loved him.

Coach was among the best men I’ve ever known! His love and positive influence on and for his student athletes was truly remarkable! He instilled in them a can do spirit that helped many young people to become successful adults. Scott was my friend to the point of being family! I will miss him until we meet again in eternity! Thanks for the many great memories Coach!

Scott was an important part of our family for years. We appreciate the time he gave to his students and athletes. We have many fond memories of the time spent with him, nothing will erase these wonderful memories. We will keep you all in our prayers and we are confident we will see Scott again.
