HENDERSON – Daniel Augustine Metheny-Rodriguez, Jr. (DJ), 31, was tragically struck by an automobile and subsequently passed away on March 14, 2024, in Louisville, KY.
DJ was born on January 25, 1993, in Fresno, CA and was the son of Kerry Metheny-Coffey and the late Daniel Augustine Rodriguez. He spent his adolescence and adult years in Kentucky, graduating in 2011, from Muhlenberg County High School in Greenville and attending Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.
DJ was an accomplished musician. He participated in musical theater in high school and the band program in both high school and college and was awarded many honors and accolades during his time at both. DJ was inducted into the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars’ Program for the Arts in 2010. In 2011, he was chosen to participate in The Blue Lake Project International Youth Symphony for a European tour. After receiving a full-ride music scholarship to Western, DJ was part of the band where he had the honor of touring China and played atop the Great Wall there.
In addition to his musical talents, DJ was kind-hearted and family oriented. He loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed getting together with his D&D friends.
DJ is survived by his father Kerry, stepfather, Jim Coffey-Metheny; brothers, Brandon Rodriguez and David Metheny; nephew Vincent Rodriguez, uncle Tommy Metheny, aunt Susan Metheny and special “Auntie”, Tammy Cartwright, and many other beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Danny, grandparents Leoda Richardson, Billy Metheny, James Coffey, Penelope Coffey, and “Uncle Bubba,” Wayne Cartwright.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11 AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, KY with Bro. Travis Fox officiating. Burial will be private.
