Cora Jane Kellems Roop Published: Sunday, July 26, 2009 12:00 AM CDT CENTRAL CITY — Mrs. Cora Jane Kellems Roop, 97, of Ohio County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center died at 3 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009. She was born Nov. 23, 1911, in Birdseye, Ind. She was a lifetime resident of Muhlenberg County, living in the Martwick and Nelson communities and was a charter member of Martwick Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Roop; a son, George Phillip Roop; a daughter, La Verne Harlan and husband Hershal; grandchildren Donald Ray Harlan, Debbie Harlan LeGrand, Bobby Joe Harlan, Tommy Roop and Keith Dixon; parents John M. and Lucinda Kellems; and brothers and sisters Roy, Richard, John Marion, Clarence, Jessie, Irene and Lucille. Survivors include a daughter, Marian Dixon of Elgin, Okla.; four sons, Joe Roop of Owensboro, John W. (Patricia) Roop of Utica, Mich., David (Nancy) Roop of Rockport, Ky., and Dennis (Sheila) Roop of Nelson Creek; grandchildren Denise Harlan (Johnny) Thompson, Amy Roop, Julie Roop (Jim) Sadburne, Beth Stovall (Phil) Roop, Jeff (Karen) Roop, Kim Dixon, Karen Dixon, Michael Dixon, Jeannie (Kevin) Metz, Kelley (Mike) Coleman, Andrea (Roland) Coleman, Cindy (Brian) Tinkel and Miranda Roop; 24 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-great-grandchildren. Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Fred Harrison officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alan Black. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
