KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS – Cheryl Olszewski, 70, of Kankakee, Illinois, passed away into the healing arms of Jesus on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Veterans home in Manteno, Illinois. Cheryl was born on October 2^nd, 1955, in Evansville, Indiana to Leonard Hawes and Deloise Marsh. She lived a life defined by an unwavering dedication to serving and protecting others.

Cheryl answered the call to proudly serve our country, enlisting in the United States Army from 1973-1976.  The discipline, resilience, and patriotism she learned during her time in the service carried over into her civilian life, shaping her into a pillar of strength for her family and community.

Cheryl dedicated her life to advocating for the most vulnerable with her many years as an Investigator for the Department of Children and Family services. She approached every case with fierce compassion, an unwavering sense of justice and a deep-rooted desire to protect children.

Cheryl’s truest legacy, however, is found in her children and grandchildren. She was a proud mother and grandmother.  She taught her children the values of standing up for what is right and serving their community. Cheryl also enjoyed drawing, golf, music, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Dave Olszewski; children, Carissa Lundmark (Michael), Lt. Mitchell Webber, and Jacob Webber; sisters, Marvilene Quigley (Jeff), Robin Grandpre (Mike), and Angie Bacon (Congressman Don); grandchildren, Noah, Isaiah, Judah and Elijah Lundmark, and Hayleigh Webber; along with many nieces, nephews, and her special friend Tracy.

She was preceded in death by father, Leonard Hawes; mother, Deloise Marsh; and sister, Sandy Graveline.

A celebration of her life and military service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 2:00PM at Leigh’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Greenville, KY, with Rev. Carl Hoover officiating.  Burial in Old Jackson Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will begin at 1:00PM on Thursday at the church.  Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories to celebrate her remarkable life.
