Kenneth Berry left a message on August 2, 2010:
Mrs. Nancy Day: Linda and I were saddened to hear about the death of "Coach" Day. He was my coach for 4 full years at Austin Tracy High School from 1960-1964, and my PE Teacher as well. I spent a lot of time with or around "Coach" Day. He was a man of highest integrity, fair and honest in dealing with students. He wanted nothing more than the best you had to offer as an athlete. "Coach Day" was fair, but serious about his job. He never used any profane language during my four years playing for him.....I was always amazed how he kept his cool so well. He taught me a lot during my four high school years that has served me well to this day. 1) Coach Day was a strong advocate of Team Work. We never had big stars at A.T., but Coach Day's demand for team work payed off as his teams improved year to year even though we were playing against top competition in our district such as Allen County, Glasgow, Ralph Bunche High etc. 2) Integrity - Coach Day stressed being fair and honest with yourself, giving all you had to offer. This has served me well to this day......and I credit "Coach Day" as a true Mentor. 3) He was just an all around "Nice Person" and will be missed. Our Heart Felt Condolences, Kenneth and Linda (Williams) Berry

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I had the privelege of playing under Coach Day, and then was lucky enough to work with him for 12 years at Glasgow Middle School. After finishing 28 years in education, he remains one of the most respected and knowledgeable individuals I have been acquainted with in our educational field. There will never be another Charlie Day.

When I was a young child, I lived on Sandwood Drive. Coach and Mrs. Day lived on Marmak. I used to go up to their house and Coach Day would always give me a cookie or piece of candy and a cola. He was my "buddy" and I sure loved him. Thank you Coach Day for being a wonderful coach, a great neighbor and my friend. Emily Harlow Rhoton

Coach Day was the best coach ever. I could go into gym sad and depressed. And when I left I would always be in a better mood. He always knew how to make everyone feel better. He was a really great person. I know he will be missed.

I remember being at the new gym at the old middle school and I just did not want to do anything else active for Coach Day. He gave me no choice and made me go get involved so I did and ended up winning a ping pong tournament. My prayers are with your family!

To the Day family, I offer my sincere condolences. I had the privilege of knowing Coach Day as a teacher, a physical education teacher, and a track coach while attending Glasgow Middle School. His teaching principles and the standards he set forth as a teacher far exceded his job title. His personality and the way he cared for each individual student signified just how wonderful a person he truly was. He gained the respect and admiration of each student he taught. I personally will miss his wonderful smile and the positive attitude he always had. May Heavenly Father watch over your family and may you find comfort and peace in His love in the days that lie ahead.

I have many memories of Coach Day from Glasgow Jr. High. He always had a smile and a pleasant personality. He had the respect of his students. Several of us former students fondly recall him always asking if what he had just said was "clear as mud". May the Lord hold you close during this time.
